Privacy policy

Workspaces is a weekly newsletter and website about the desks people work at. This page explains what we collect when you visit workspaces.xyz or subscribe, why we collect it, who it’s shared with, and how to have it deleted. The short version: we collect very little, we never sell it, and you can leave at any time.
What we collect
- Your email address, if you subscribe, plus where you signed up: the page, the form, and the link or ad that brought you.
- How the site is used, through Fathom and Google Analytics: pages viewed, roughly where in the world visitors are, the device and browser, and the site that sent them. Fathom does not use cookies. Google Analytics does.
- Counts of clicks on gear links and on our signup forms. These are tallies, not records of a person. No email, name or IP address is attached.
- Your IP address, briefly, when you sign up, to stop automated spam signups. It is kept for at most 24 hours.
We don’t ask for your name, and we never collect payment details.
Cookies and browser storage
The site keeps a few small notes in your browser so it doesn’t ask you the same thing twice: whether you’ve already subscribed, whether we’ve already shown you a signup prompt, and which link first brought you here. Google Analytics and, when we run ads, the Meta Pixel set their own cookies. Retailers may set cookies when you follow a gear link to their site (see below). You can clear or block all of these in your browser settings.
How we use it
- To send you the newsletter and the occasional email about Workspaces.
- To understand which pages, interviews and links people find useful.
- To measure whether our ads work, and to show them to people more likely to enjoy Workspaces.
- To keep out spam and abuse.
We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t share your email address with sponsors.
Who we share it with
Only the services that run Workspaces, each for the job described:
- beehiiv sends the newsletter and stores subscriber emails.
- Vercel hosts the website.
- Upstash stores the click counts and the short-lived spam-prevention records.
- Fathom and Google Analytics measure site traffic.
- Meta (Facebook and Instagram), when we run ads. The Meta Pixel and Meta’s Conversions API tell Meta that someone who saw one of our ads visited or subscribed, so we can measure the ads and reach similar readers. When you subscribe after clicking an ad, your email may be sent to Meta in a hashed (scrambled) form for this purpose.
Affiliate links
Some gear links are affiliate links, including Amazon’s. If you buy through one, the retailer pays us a small commission at no extra cost to you. When you click one, you leave Workspaces, and the retailer’s own privacy policy and cookies apply.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe with the link at the bottom of any email. It takes effect right away.
- Ask for a copy of your data, a correction, or deletion by emailing hello@workspaces.xyz. We’ll reply within 30 days.
- Turn off ad personalization in your Facebook or Instagram ad settings, or with your browser’s or device’s privacy controls.
Depending on where you live, including California and the EU and UK, you may have further rights over your data. Email us and we’ll honor them.
Keeping it
We keep your email for as long as you’re subscribed. If you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, we remove it. Analytics and click counts are kept in aggregate.
Children
Workspaces isn’t meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information.
Where it’s stored
Our services are based in the United States, so your information is stored and processed there.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update the date at the top. For significant changes, we’ll tell subscribers by email.
